DR SOYELE BECOMES THE ACTING PROVOST OF FCE, ABEOKUTA
Dr. Rafiu Adekola Soyele (MNIM) served as the Deputy Provost of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State, under the leadership of Dr. Ajayi A. A. Following the completion of Dr. Ajayi's tenure as Provost, Dr. Soyele assumed responsibility as the Acting Provost of the College pending the appointment or election of a substantive Provost.
Dr. Soyele is an alumnus of the institution and has a long-standing relationship with the College. He joined the services of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta in 1997 as a Lecturer II. Through dedication to his academic career and professional responsibilities, he steadily progressed through the academic ranks and attained the position of Chief Lecturer in the Department of English in 2009.
Over the years, Dr. Soyele occupied several important administrative and academic positions within the College. Among the positions he held were Coordinator of the Centre for Continuing Education and Consultancy, Head of the Department of English, Director of the Centre for Advancement, Dean of the School of Languages, and Director of the Centre for Degree Programmes. He also served as a member of several institutional committees.
His extensive experience within the College, combined with his academic and administrative contributions, made him a suitable candidate to provide leadership during the transition following the expiration of the substantive Provost's tenure.
As an academic, Dr. Soyele participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. He also contributed to academic literature through textbooks, journal publications and commissioned papers.
Dr. Soyele is described as a devoted Muslim, a lover of children and a sociable personality. He is married and has continued to contribute to the academic and administrative development of the institution.
THE PROVOST
Dr. Ajayi A. A. completed his tenure as the Provost of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, on 23 December 2020. He served as Provost for approximately eight years, from 2012 to 2020, during which he provided leadership for the institution.
Following the conclusion of his tenure, the responsibility for overseeing the affairs of the College was transferred to the then Deputy Provost, Dr. Rafiu Adekola Soyele, who assumed the position of Acting Provost pending the selection or appointment of a new substantive Provost.
Dr. Soyele's previous experience as Deputy Provost and his years of service in various academic and administrative positions within the institution equipped him with considerable knowledge of the College's operations and administration.
THE REGISTRAR
Dr. Gabriel Adébáyò Adébáyò (FNIM) is an indigene of Ijaye in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He began his formal education at the renowned Abadina Primary School and later attended Abadina College, both in Ibadan.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, popularly regarded as Nigeria's Premier University. His commitment to professional and academic development subsequently led him to obtain a Professional Master's Degree in Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) from the University of Ibadan in 1997.
Dr. Adébáyò continued his academic pursuits at the same university, earning an M.Sc. in Sociology of Work and Industry in 2005 and a Ph.D. in 2017. In addition to his academic qualifications, he completed a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) in 2019 and successfully passed the Professional Qualifying Examination conducted by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), qualifying him as a professional teacher.
He is regarded as an experienced administrator with a reputation for producing quality results within specified periods. Dr. Adébáyò joined the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta in September 1992 as an Administrative Officer II.
His administrative abilities became evident early in his career. Only three months after joining the College, he was transferred from the Establishment Division to the office of the then College Provost, Late Professor E. O. A. Ajayi, where he served as the Provost's Personal Assistant.
Dr. Adébáyò occupied this position for approximately eleven years, from 1992 to 2003. During this period, his dedication, efficiency, integrity and commitment to his responsibilities reportedly distinguished him as a hardworking and dependable administrator.
His career within the institution has therefore been characterized by progressive responsibilities and extensive administrative experience. His quiet disposition is complemented by strong character, intelligence, determination and leadership qualities.
THE COLLEGE LIBRARIAN
Dr. Godwin Olusegun Oyewole was born on 20 April 1962 and hails from Ogori in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State.
His early education began at St. Andrew's School, Okene, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1974. He subsequently attended Government Secondary School, Daura, in Katsina State, and Government Secondary School, Malete, in Kwara State, where he completed his secondary education and obtained his secondary school certificates in 1981.
Between 1982 and 1984, he attended the School of Basic Studies at Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, where he obtained an Advanced Level Certificate.
Dr. Oyewole proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied Library Science and obtained his bachelor's degree between 1987 and 1990. He completed his mandatory NYSC programme from 1990 to 1991 at the 2nd Mechanised Division in Ibadan.
Following his national service, he returned to the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a Master's degree in Library Science between 1991 and 1993. He later acquired a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 1999 and completed his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science in 2013, both from the University of Ibadan.
Dr. Oyewole joined the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta on 5 December 1995 as Librarian I. During his career, he worked in various sections of the College Library and gradually progressed to higher responsibilities.
He became Acting College Librarian on 16 April 2013, before his substantive appointment as College Librarian took effect on 1 August 2013.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr. Oyewole served on various College committees and boards. He also developed an academic publication record comprising more than 25 publications in local and international journals, alongside several conference papers. He participated in numerous professional workshops and academic programmes both within Nigeria and internationally.
THE COLLEGE BURSAR
Mr. Alabi Adenrele Olatunji was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, into the family of the late Joel Ibitoye Alabi, originally from Oyan in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State.
He began his education at St. Peter's African Primary School, Oyan, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1975. He subsequently attended Oyan Grammar School, completing his General Certificate in Education and School Certificate examinations in 1979 and 1980 respectively.
Mr. Alabi pursued a career in accounting and obtained both his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from Ogun State Polytechnic, now known as Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, in 1984 and 1987 respectively.
He later obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ado-Ekiti in 2008. His professional development also included the completion of the Final Certificate of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) in 2003. He became a Fellow of the relevant professional accounting bodies and attained the prestigious status of Fellow, Certified National Accountant.
Mr. Alabi joined the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta in 1992 and progressed through various positions while taking on increasing levels of responsibility.
Between 2004 and 2010, he served as Chief Internal Auditor/Deputy Director of Internal Audit. He was also the pioneer chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the College, an institutional structure associated with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). He subsequently became the Bursar of the College, with his appointment taking effect from 1 August 2013.
In addition to his professional career, Mr. Alabi is involved in Christian ministry. He serves as a pastor and leads His Banner of Love Christian Chapel Worldwide, located in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Over the course of his career, he has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions. He is married to Pastor (Mrs.) Olufunmilayo Alabi, and they have children.
