FCE ABEOKUTA APPROVES NEW SCHOOL (ECCE & PED)


Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta presently consists of six (6) schools prior to the old five (5) schools in the College.

The Department of Early Childhood Care and Education *ECCE* and Primary Education Studies *PED* of The Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta has been separated from Adult and Non-formal Education *ANF*, to become The School of Early Childhood and Primary Education. Presently, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Primary Education Studies (PED DM) belongs to one School namely, School of Early Childhood and Primary Education (ECE/PED), while Adult and Non-formal Education (ANF DM) alone belongs to the School of Education. The three departments (namely: Early Childhood Care and Education *ECCE*, Primary Education Studies *PED*, and Adult and Non-Formal Education *ANF*) which was once all-together under the School of Education, was separated from *ANF* to become  the School of ECCE/PED.  The School of Education is left with Adult and Non-Formal Education *ANF* and remains a major course/subject which is now minored with several other courses such as Yoruba, Social Studies, etc.

Prior to the separation, the three (3) Departments, Early  Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Department, Primary Education Studies (PED) Department, and Adult and Non-formal Education (ANF) Department have been under the School of Education. The New School which comprises of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and Primary Education Studies (PED) will be governed under the Dean, School of Early Childhood and Primary Education, along with the School's new Dean, the person of Mrs. A. O Adejobi.

The Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta may deem it necessary to expand the total number of Schools in the years to come. The College community is growing steadily, alongside The Centre for Degree Programmes (CEDEP), University of Ibadan (UI) Affiliated with Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, and we also have Lagos State University (LASU) a sandwich programme, the two affiliated institutions have helped increase the number of students and members of the College community. During his tenure, Dr Ajayi A. A. mentioned on a television programme hosted by Ogun State Television (OGTV) that there is a proposal to convert Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta from a College of Education to a fully-fledged University. The Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, located in Osiele, Odeda Local Government, Area, Abeokuta, Ogun State has been a functional College of Education for over 40 years, known for its reputation as the most peaceful institution in the State as well as in Nigeria.
