ABOUT TRCN

Teachers Registration Council is a governing board, body or members that oversees the certification, induction, and licensing of teachers in Nigeria. All teachers in Nigeria are expected to register, sit and write the Teachers Registration Council examination. After the examination has been written, the results are posted and made available by the Teachers Registration Council online and by other offline means necessary. Therefore, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is a certificate used to certify the teaching profession in Nigeria.

Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is an agency of the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria. It was established by the TRCN Decree N0. 31 of 1993 (now TRCN Act CAP T3 of 2004). The major mandates are the regulation and control of the Teaching Profession at all levels of the Nigerian Education system, both in the public and private sectors. No Educational sector, institution or organization is exempted from Teachers Registration Council in Nigeria, therefore they are expected to ascertain that teachers that are employed into Educational sector or institution have a licence that shows and can therefore prove that such teacher is a certified teacher.

Certification is the official documentation or documentations that shows that a particular teacher has reached a milestone or a status of achievement as a professional teacher, duly recognized by a governing body.

Induction on the other hand testifies to the placement of a teacher to a particularly new position or stage in a particular profession. Induction can be elaborated and organized as a ceremonial introduction for teachers.

Licensing can be defined as an official permission assigned to a particular person or organization to establish them in order to practice a certain profession or produce certain products.

Certification, Induction, and Licensing of Teachers in Nigeria is carried out by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, therefore the legitimacy of every teacher in Nigeria to practice teaching and learning at any level of education is officially linked to licensing by Teachers Registration Council in Nigeria.

All other bodies and members associated with Teachers Registration Council in Nigeria are developed to support and implement the mission, goals and objectives of the Teachers Registration Council in Nigeria

Nigerian Journal of Professional Teachers (NJPT) To promote the exchange of ideas/best practices and to lead the development of knowledge, skills and orientation in the teaching profession, TRCN has instituted an annual journal titled Nigerian Journal of Professional Teachers (NJPT).
